Who is this guy, and how did I get here?
Duncan O. Hoge is a Fresno, California based actor/voice actor, and a graduate of Fresno State University’s theatre program. He has experience acting in commercials, indie films, and student films and voice acting in podcasts, internet videos, and audio dramas.
He has 4 years of training in which he was taught how to make the greatest use of his voice and body to portray the emotions his characters feel in their heart. While in university Duncan studied: the Sanford Meisner method, Uta Hagen method, clown technique, children’s theatre, endowment technique, and Improv.
He has formal training in animation, and commercial voice over by veteran actor, Vicki Lewis (“Finding Nemo”, “An Extremely Goofy Movie”, “Batman: the Brave and the Bold”) and producer, Philip G. Allen, where he learned the difference between a "voice over" and "voice under".
What makes him stand out is his ability to create a unique appearance and personality, and that he is not afraid to embrace his inner “weirdness” and “quirks” that make people turn their heads and bring it to a role. What others might feel self conscious about he embraces. “Part of being an actor is playing pretend in public. You have to embrace that, and if people look at you funny so what?”
As a voice actor his natural speaking voice has a young sound that is fit for coming-of-age characters, and disgruntled characters with a chip on their shoulder. (“I don’t know why, but I just sound that way by nature.”) His higher voice range is good for mad scientists, unstable, or wacky characters. His lower voice range is fit for wannabe tough guy type characters.
What is Duncan most proud of: “My biggest achievement thus far has been in taking the skills I developed in theatre and applying them to my acting and voice over work.”
